Kobold Expedition Tools is is a U.S.-based manufacturer of professional grade wristwatches and knives for explorers, pilots, divers, and other adventurers. Kobold is currently the only manufacturer worldwide to provide American mechanical movements in their timepieces.
In the Arctic Adventure spot, Kobold Ambassador Sir Ranulph Fiennes, the world’s greatest living explorer, reflects on his time as the first and only person to ever travel the world on its vertical axis.
Originally part of the “Legend of Johnny The Mailman Series,” we planned to shoot two sections: The Lone Man traversing the Arctic (seen in the commercial), and a section scene at Sir Ranulph Fiennes’ British Estate (as he speaks with Johnny the Mailman). However, Michael Kobold liked the singular arctic cut so much that the second section was left on the cutting room floor.
The Arctic Adventure was shot in McCall, Idaho in the dead of winter, and heavy compositing was used to change the picaresque Northwest setting to a deep arctic environment.
